What Are The Causes Of Having Blood Clots During Periods?

Hello, I was wondering, why do I have blood clots during my monthly cycles? Some months I don t and some months I do. This month I passed a blood clot that was big as two (2) fingers in width and two (2) fingers long, and that was very painfull. Am I going through menopause?

Hi,
Blood clots if it has to stay for a longer time in transit, either in the cervix or the vagina. This often happens when the blood loss is more during the menstrual cycle. The passage of a clot that big definitely suggests shedding of portions of the endometrium large enough either as such or as shedding polyps. Sometimes, a chemical pregnancy can cause such discharge. Only a histopathological exam of the discharge gives the clue. To detect peri-menopause, hormone assays are needed in addition to clinical findings. Bleeding patterns of all sorts are observed during this phase. Hope this helps.
