What Are The Reasons For Black Colored Stool With Blood And Tiredness?

Just yesterday, my stools were very black, full of blood, almost tarry looking. Also I felt weak and tired. Today, the same thing, although not nearly as tired feeling. I am a 69 year-old female in very good health, very active. Will see my doctor on Monday for same. What are you thoughts on this.

Hi,

The very dark stool you had indicate bleeding from your GI tract. So, it is necessary to discuss with your doctor to find out the source of bleeding, which might be:
- polyps/tumors
- hemorrhoids
- foods/supplements you take

You should also run:
- upper endoscopy
- colonoscopy
- fecal occult blood testing
- abdominal ultrasound

Based on the results, further treatment will be prescribed.
