What Are The Repercussions Of Taking An Expired Cipro For UTI?

I took 3 individual expired Cipro for UTI, was desperate, expiration was 04/14. I have since broken out with itchy rash on chest, neck back & some on arms. I'm a person that litterally never has had rashes or hives, not even poison ivy or oak. Could this be the cause of my itchy rash?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the itchy rashes that you had on your chest, back and neck after taking expired Ciprofloxacin seems to be due to allergic reaction to the decomposition products of Ciprofloxacin that are formed after the medication gets expired..
The decomposition products can be toxic and fatal and can cause severe allergic reaction, while at times it can cause life threatening complications..
You should never ever take expired drugs..
As of now you can also take anti allergics like Allegra or Benadryl..
You can also apply steroid ointment over the rashes..
You can do cool compresses and apply Calamine lotion to soothe the skin..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
