What Are The Side Effects After Cortisone Shot In The Knee?

I got a cortisone shot around my plica fold on the inside of my right knee about a month ago, and there is a large bruise just now showing up..and two veins are showing more now too. The skin around where the shot was given is very rough and dry. I kept lotion on it for three days and it still is rough. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to corticosteroids injection. I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain. I also suggest using cold compresses at the area of the injection.

I recommend using Calamine lotion for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
