Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mom took boniva for osteoporosis, she is 67 yrs old, post medicine, she started pain in her knees, her knees and back got stiff making her unable to walk. Is that iatrogenic cause or altogether different thing, all reports are normal, she is taking calcium on daily basis with supplements
Boniva contains ibandronate that is used in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis or bone loss. But like other medications this medication has some side effects of its own. It may cause muscle ache, pain in arms or legs, severe bone or joint pain, new or unusual hip, thigh or groin pain, jaw pain and many more. These side effects may persist for few weeks after start taking this medication initially and go away over time as the body adjusts to this medication. But if these side effects persist for long or bother you then you should consult your doctor first for medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
