Hi ive been prescribed erythromycin 250mg two to be taken four times a day this was on Thursday its now saturday and so far I have had trouble breathing at bed time, diarrhoea, vomiting, dizziness, loss of appetite , stomach pains and stabbing pains at the bottom of my breast bone the diarrhoea has stopped but all of the above I still have. The stabbing breast pains are so painfull and rather concerning im not sure what to do please help dawn
These are all possible side effects of erythromycin. They can sometimes be quite severe. You should stop the erythromycin and talk to your doctor. You don't mention what you were taking it for, so it's possible that you need to be on some kind of antibiotic. Your doctor can change the prescription. You mention some problem breathing at bedtime. If you are having wheezing, a rash, hives, or swelling, it could be a true allergic reaction. Go to emergency. If the breast bone pains are that painful, it might be a good idea to go there anyway. They could help you with the pain, replace lost fluids, control the nausea and vomiting with medicine, and give you a different antibiotic if it is needed. Hope this helps.
