What Causes A Low Grade Temperature In A Child?

I HAVE AN 11 YEAR OLD THAT HAS BEEN RUNNING LOW GRADE TEMP OF 99 TO 100 9 DAYS AND HAS DEEP COUGH - TOOK HER TO DR LAST WEEK AND SAID LUNGS WERE CLEAR AND FELT THIS WAS VIRAL BUT DID PRESRIBE ANTIABIOTIC ON DAY 4 - ALSO CHECKED FOR STREPT BUT WAS NEGATIVE. IS THIS NORMAL TO CONTINUE WITH TEMPERATURE OR DO WE NEED TO LOOK FOR OTHER CAUSES. ALSO MY 13 YEAR OLD HAS SAME SYMPTOMS WHICH BEGAN 4 DAYS AGO.

Hi
Welcome to healthcaremagic
Clinically this looks like viral fever only for which other than antipyretic nothing is required and it is self limiting. But whenever fever persists beyond 1 week it is mandatory to investigate to rule out other causes like enteric fever,Koch's,UTI,pus somewhere, connective tissue disorders like Kawasaki ,SLE
Happy to help you
Best regards
