Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. Have a question about blood clots... I've got a question about blood clots....... When i was 16 i had a really bad car wreck and a week or two later a lump came up on my right leg, like my shin. I don't remember it having a bruise from the wreck and at that time it didn't hurt and was never red or anything. It was just there ya know? And I went in to see my regular doctor at the time and all she did was look at my leg and ran her hand across it to feel it and said that's a blood clot. Freaked me and mother out! But she told me that it was stuck on a muscle and that it would never move... is that true? It's still there today(i'm now 23) on my right leg on my shin but here lately it's been aching a lil around where the lump is. Just a dull-ish type pain that doesnt hurt all the time just like a few times a day and feels like you need to rub on it like a sore muscle or something. The lump itself doesn't hurt if you push on it or anything. I suppose I'm just worried about it... What do you think?
Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. From description , this hard lump most probably formed due to haematoma formation (collection of blood) which might get fibrosed or calcified. It will take few weeks to months to get disappear. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination of swelling. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. Meanwhile give hot fomatation over it, You can take Tablet Motrin 1 tablet with food as and when required (upto 4 tablets daily).
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
