Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have recently (Nov 2010) had a colostomy done and i have been having quite a lot of pain in my abdomen since when i exercise (and when i say exercise this can just mean walk to the shops so not much at all). im having a ct scan for this in few wks. How accurate are they and will it find the problem do u think? im a bit worried it wont be able to show much as im overweight.
HI.Thanks for your history: Colostomy on 2010- pain- just walk- CT planned - doubt about accuracy - overweight. The commonest cause of pain in abdomen after colostomy can be following: Intestinal obstruction due to adhesion , this is common after such surgeries on colon; sticture of intestine; CT scan is reasonably accurate and a very good modality as it can detect many things which we can not find on ultrasonography. IT can find mass, stricture , intestinal obstruction , appendicitis , almost all the inflammatory processes.. Many times a simple standing X-ray of the abdomen is sufficient to see for intestinal obstruction.
