What Causes Blood In Urine?

My boyfriend has noticed bright red blood in his urine and less urine frequency today. He has been diagnosed with a UTI previously and also has had kidney stones. What do you recommend. He does still have some Cipro from his previous UTI. Could this be the possible cause or if not what do you recommend?

Urologist 's  Response
Hi,

As an Urologist, I can understand your anxiety. The kidney stones can be a cause for the blood in urine. It's also a cause for the UTI, as the stone can be a focus of infection. So unless the stones are cleared or expelled, this may recur any time. He should be drinking about 12-15 glasses fluids daily. He should also be taking stone dissolution drugs or undergo a lithotripsy. If you've any doubts, send a direct question to me.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.Matthew J. Mangat
