What Causes Constipation And Loose Motion In A Child?

My 5 year old daughter who is quite often constipated has been having loose stools since a fever/cold about a week ago. The fever/cold came and went quickly, she is still sounding stuffy..(not sure if it is now allergy related). The last two days she has been having mucous in her stool.. white..or flesh colored.. should I have her seen?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Loose motion with mucus indicates underlying intestine infection. Primary guidelines for the better outcome are:
- Give her plenty of liquids.
- Check that she does not put toys or other kinds of stuff in mouth.
- She must maintain hygienic care before and after using washroom and eating foodstuffs.
- If after dietary restriction and other care, the frequency of stool persists, then she should be getting prescription of antibiotic and probiotic to combat the condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
