What Causes Constipation And Sticky Stools In A Child?

My daughter is 18 mos old. The past week and a half she has been having several sticky poopy diapers, but nothing that amounts to anything. They are just smudges. She tries really hard to go but all she can get out is a smudge. She was constipated and I started giving her fiber select crackers and rice cakes that are high in fiber. I feel she s been drinking plenty of fluids. Not sure what the problem is. She seems uncomfortable at times from it, but she s been eating well.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This is a very common problem and often no real cause is found. In addition to what you have been doing, adding prune juice to the diet frequently helps. Try this, if the problem persists or her discomfort increases, see your pediatrician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Eric Goldstein,
Pediatrician
