What Causes Constipation, Dizziness And Nauses After Treatment For Diarrhea?

My mother is 83. About three to four weeks ago she developed diarrhea. She was prescribed immodium and then developed constipation. She feels nausea and has a lot of gas. Low body temp, 96.7. CT scans, stool cultures, nothing shows up. She gets dizzy and lightheaded. During the night, she suffers pain and gas. She states that she becomes dizzy and lightheaded.

Hello!
Thank you for trusting HCM!

Old age patients with diarrhea more prone for hypotension, hyponatremia, hypokalemia and precrenal acute renal failure.

Imodium not used (in infectious diarrhoea) because it may aggravate the problem and cause gastroparesis in old age.

Just give soft liquid diet and use probiotic tablet. If symptoms persist, please consult your surgeon to rule out gastroparesis.

Take care
