What Causes Diarrhea?

I have been on Eliquis for about 5 months. I now have a bad problem with diarrhea. I have elimanated every thing else that could be the problem. Could the Eliquis be the cause of the diarrhea? Just for your info and some background. I had colon surgery in April 2013 with the loss of several feet and put on a bag. Repair surgery done in August 2013. I was put on Coumadin to keep the blood flowing in the colon. Had to get off as it caused hair to fall out in masses. Was then put on the Eliquis. No diarrhea problem until about a month after starting the Eliquis. Please help with any info.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history colon excision, put on coumadin to keep the blood flowing, stopped due to hair fall and shifted to Eliquis now for the last 5 months, started with diarrhea after 1 month of starting it.
A gap of 1 month goes against the medicine as causing this.
The most probable cause is the food that can not be concentrated as feces and hence the diarrhea,.
I would advise you the following in such a situation.:
Barium study in the form of enteroclysis to see the emptying time, how fast is the transit and help you accordingly.
Endoscopy from both ends.
Tests of stool for 3 consecutive days.
tests of blood for CBC, Sugar, thyroid, liver functions.
If there is an evidence of an infection, therapeutic trial of an antibiotic may help you.
Get a close watch on the foods and the beverages that is enhancing or instigating your problems and stop these ones.
Stress and anxiety have a direct bearing on the motility.
