What Causes Excessive Sleepiness?

Why am I sleeping so much, far more than normal for me? Nothing about my diet or medications has changed. Within a 3-day period this week, I slept soundly for approximately 26 hours, and I have slept more normally since then except for an unexpected 2.5-hour nap this afternoon. Yes, I feel tired. I will be 76 next week. Usually, I sleep about 7 hours a night with a 1 to 1.5-hour nap in the afternoon.

Hi,

You can wait a week to assess your sleep pattern. If it is significantly higher it has to be evaluated. You can check your thyroid status and complete blood count as hypothyroidism and anemia can present like this. In persistent symptoms better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
