Hallow Dear,
Usually the pregnancy test becomes negative from one week to one month after an abortion. If even 7 weeks after the abortion pregnancy test is positive (though faint), it suggests the following possibility:
1. Choriocarcinoma: This is a cancer of placental tissue. Usually, it bleeds profusely. It is very fast spreading cancer, However it can be very easily and effectively treated by
Methotrexate. Please get
ultrasonography done for the evidence of Choriocarcinoma. You may require curetting or hysteroscopy for diagnosis.
2. Ectopic Pregnancy: This could be a new pregnancy, implanted somewhere outside the
uterine cavity, usually tube. Faint pregnancy test suggests the possibility of ectopic pregnancy. Such pregnancy does not grow and carries a risk of rupture which is a bleeding emergency requiring emergency surgical intervention with many units of
blood transfusion. However, if diagnosed before rupture, it can be treated conservatively with Methotrexate. Ultrasonography can help. Empty uterus will suggest
implantation outside uterine cavity.
3. Pregnancy test done too early in normal pregnancy. However, this possibility is very remote. Ultrasonography will help.
Please report to the Obstetrician ASAP.
