What Causes Feeling Of A Lump At The Back Of The Throat?

I have a the feeling of a lump in the back of my throat above my uvula. It has been there for a little over a week, somewhat constant feeling. I have not had any other allergy symptoms and it doesn t feel like the usual post nasal drip. Drinking and coughing do not help.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. From the description of the location, it seems that you are having swelling of the soft palate.

This swelling can be due to bacterial infection, viral infection, allergic reaction or sinusitis.

I recommend that you should start treatment with antibiotics for the possible bacterial infection and antihistamine for the possible antihistamines. You can take Cefixime 200 mg (Topcef) twice a day for 5 days along with Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) once a day for 5 days. Sinusitis will also be reduced with Levocetrizine, if present.

If it is due to viral infection, you do not require separate treatment for it. It will heal by itself in 7-10 days as the body's immunity will fight the infection.

However, if you do not feel better in a week regarding this health issue, you should see a dentist for the clinical examination, necessary investigations, confirmed diagnosis and treatment of the swelling.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
