What Causes Fever And Body Chills When Suffering From Bladder Infection?

My husband is a paraplegic and every time a bladder infection starts up - his body locks up. It starts with him saying he has chills. I will take his temperature and see that a fever is starting. Next thing I know, he will shiver his way into a full body lock up, which usually results in me calling the paramedics. The only way to get his body out of this lock up is to use Valium by IV. Then, we usually find out that he has a bladder infection. I'm wondering what is causing his body to lock up like this and is it something more serious? He is 6'4, 215 lbs and 35 yrs old.

Respected user , hi
Thanks for using Healthcaremagiccom .
I have evaluated your query thoroughly .

* Fever is in relation with his body`s response to urinary tract infection as a
part of systemic inflammatory reaction .
* Body lock ( excess chills ) suggests high grade fever affecting body
muscles tones and making them contract more vigorously to resist
against fever .
* Require immediate medical attention , otherwise it becomes serious .

Hope to clarify your query .
