What Causes Glandular Fever And Mumps Or Infection In My Child S Blood Test?

My son has what appears to be a very swollen gland in his neck for over a week now. He is generally feeling low energy and unwell (probably because he is not eating / drinking well). Blood tests have shown not glandular fever, mumps or infection. What could this possibly be?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi your son may have picked up a viral infection which can give swollen glands. Checking for infection also depends on the type of blood test specific for the infection you are looking for. There are immunology test looking for viral infections like Mumps, Glandular fever (Mumps IgM and EBV IgM). Some viruses can make you feel low and reduce the energy level. Make sure he is taking adequate fluids and rest. He will get better but some will take longer than usual.
