What Causes Low Platelet Count When Suffering From Ulcerative Colitis?

i am suffering from ulcerative colitis.i am taking mesacol from 8 months.the disease is in mild stage, only rectum is involved,.blood with stool seen only 2 times in the starting (8 months before).after that no blood is seen.few days ago my platelet count is 78000, RBC,WBC,Hb,MCH,MCV,are within normal range.what is the reason of such a low platelet count?

There can be a reaction to the medicine. That is not common. The platelet count can occur out of the blue. It is often from a viral infection even a common viral infection. There can be reactions to any other medicines. Or the autoimmune nature of the ulcerative colitis could do it but it isn't common unless the bowel is causes severe trouble.
