hello basically what happens that the nerves in the abdominal wall are arranged in an oblique manner sandwiched between two sublayers of the wall and when a procedure which involves a midline or a paramedian incision is given suggesting an extensive procedure, some of these nerves get either cut or exposed. and when a procedure like reversal of colostomy is done (meaning the two exposed ends of the gut are down back and returned into the abdomen) there are chances that these nerves get compressed while applying stitches giving rise to symptoms like numbness and parasthesia. it only happens in a few cases and not all and its not a major issue to say the least.
