What Causes Pain In Back Causing Breathing Difficulty After Fall?
My 45 yr old husband fell down a 8 step flight of stairs 2 days ago. He has a large bruise left side mid back. Pain was 6 out of 10, until last night when he sneezed and was in such excruciating pain, it hurt to breathe, he turned pale, could not lay down, and it took about 30 to 45 minutes to subside. What injuries could he have sustained? What treatment should we seek - m.d. appt or straight to ER?

Hi,
From history it seems that he might be having severe muscle strain and got severe spasm.
There is also a possibility of having some injury to muscles or cervical spines.
Go to ER and get examined and for other reports.
Meanwhile give him rest.
To get temporary relief give him analgesic with muscle relaxant medicine.
Ok and take care.
