What Causes Painful Urination?

I ate 3 cloves of fresh raw chopped garlic and now, two days later, I have very painful urination. I'm wonderingif its from the acid in the garlic coming out in my urine, or a UTI? or vaginitis? But I have no reason to suspect I have a UTI? Can it be the garlic??

Hello!
This is Dr. Klarida Papaqako answering your question.
Garlic does not give burning urination, in my knowledge. Also, what you have described doesn't look like a vaginitis, since the painful urination is the main symptom.
It is most probably an urinary tract infection, even if you don't find a reason its very frequent.
If I was your caring doctor, I would recommend to:
a) drink plenty of fluids;
b) consider doing an urine analyse (which most probably will result positive) together with an urine culture;
c) start antibiotics. The first line of antibiotic to choose, if you are not allergic of it is Trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole 960 mg, twice/day for 3 days.
4) Meanwhile the urine culture results should come out by the end of the antibiotic course and you will know if you were resistent or sensitive to it.

If need any more clarification, please feel free to ask.
Regards.
