What Causes Red Hives And Stiffness In Limbs In Epilepsy Case?
My daughter 16 month old daughter gets red hives all over, moist skin, stiff arms and legs (with clinched fists and clinched toes), rhythmic arm movements, eyes gazed and heavy breathing every night before a bowel movement. She has low muscle tone along with other issues related to her chromosome 6p duplication. These attacks do NOT show up on eeg recordings as seizures, however she was recently diagnosed with general epilepsy. What could this be?
Your description of her movements and fixed gaze with what appears to be in alert status is clinically consistent with seizure activity whether it appears on an EEG recording or not.
Usually, when something like this occurs it is located much deeper in the brain (possible brainstem in this case) causing these autonomic symptoms/activities to take place.
I would suggest that the bowel movements are actually a consequence of the seizure activity and not just coincidental to them.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
