What Causes Stiffness And Discomfort Behind The Left Knee?

I have discomfort in the back my left knee making it difficult to sleep. I have been experiencing some stiffness in my leg muscles of late. Today I was active (golf, mowing the lawn) and this level of nighttime discomfort is unusual. I usually can sleep through the night.
