What Causes Sudden Bruising And Pain In The Knees?

Hi my 13 year old daughter has had very painful knees off & on for a couple of years now...............she will go several months with no pain & then all of a sudden like this week be in extreme pain..................she has had an ultrasound, x-ray & MRI on both knees in the past & everything looks normal...............this week she has bruising on both knees & is in pain after several months of no pain & it has lasted a week so far & we do not think that she has injured them?? Wondering what is causing the bruising whether we should make a doctor s appt.??

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Bruises are often caused by falls, sports injuries, car accidents, or blows received by other people or objects.
If she takes a blood thinner, like aspirin or warfarin (Coumadin), likely to bruise more easily.
First Aid
Place ice on the bruise to help it heal faster and to reduce swelling. Place the ice in a cloth -- DO NOT place ice directly on the skin. Apply the ice for up to 15 minutes per hour.
Keep the bruised area raised above the heart, if practical. This helps keep blood from pooling in the bruised tissue.
Try to rest the bruised body part by not overworking your muscles in that area.
If needed, take acetaminophen (Tylenol) to help reduce pain.
