Hi, my grandmother is 103. She has high blood pressure and has refuses to take her medication becasue she thinks the family is trying to posion her. I noticed yesterday the her left ankle is very swollen, about the size of a small cantalope. She will not see a Dr. What could be causing the swelling in her ankle?
swelling in the ankle may suggest cardiac involvement due to uncontrolled hypertension. due to high blood pressure pooling of blood in the veins of the legs causes swelling. controlling blood pressure is the correct treatment. elevation of leg using pillows while lying down will help to reduce swelling in ankle.
