I have been noticing that my tongue aches after I wake up. I find that my tongue is pressed against my teeth, this may even happen during the day. I also find that when I'm dropping off to sleep It feels like I need to take a breath. I do have anxiety, acid reflux and I am pre-diabetic if this helps. I'm 44, 5'8 158lbs and somewhat active

Hello,

Probably you are suffering from macroglossia with sleep apnea. Sharp borders of teeth may bite tongue edges lead to problems. Obesity or sleep apnea during sleeping may lead to decreased laryngeal muscle tone in the night leads to obstruction of respiratory passage lead to the fall of respiratory oxygen levels to dyspnea.

So do regular exercise and yoga may helpful. Weight reduction may useful. Supplement of oxygen at night also useful in sleep. If symptoms not improved, please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
