What Could Be The Reason For Charcoal Colored Stools?

My son has been having GI issues for a long time (since 3 and he is now 9). His earlier bouts were very indicative of CVS or abdominal migraine but last November he hit his head on a metal pole at school and then 2 hours later started vomiting . His pedi felt it was viral because low grade fever and diarrhea were also present and that it was not related to the head trauma . Ever since then he;s complained nightly of epigastric pain and in Jan started complaining daily at school as well. Mid Jan he started in with vomiting and pain and he was hospitalized for evaluation. GI was normal, CT, US and MRI of brain normal. @nd episode in March, again hospitalized for hydration. Hat MR Enterography on 4/2 and it showed a possible stone in the neck of the gallbladder. This week he started passing charcoal colored stools which he has never done before. Could this be for a GB issues?

Hi

I feel very sorry for all the sufferings of your kid. The history and clinical evaluation and investigations points towards heavy worm infestation or a possible gall stone impaction. So if further evaluation points towards worm infestation he has to be managed with anti worm medications. If he has gall stone impaction then surgery is the ideal treatment of choice. Wish ur kid a faster recovery.
