What Could Be The Spot On The Lung That Is Seen Through X-ray That Was Diagnosed As Walking Pneumonia And Has Not Reduced Even After Taking Medications?

My father 65 went to see his MD the day after a thanksgiving b/c of a tickle in his throat/cough he has had since being in FL in Oct. He diagnosed him with walking pneoumia after a spot was seen on his X-ray and was asked to come back in 2 weeks and take a Z pack prescription. 2 weeks later the cough and spot on his lung was still there via X-ray so he prescribed a fungal medicine and went back after another 2 weeks to find it is still there however he did not take the medicine correctly nor did he take it all due to side effects. He did smoke 30+ years ago , feels totally fine, has an appetite etc.. What could this be?

Hi,

Bacterial pneumonia is the first suspicion for a spot in the lungs associated with acute symptoms. The size and doubling time of such a spot is most important. If the antibiotics dont work then patients are given anti fungals. If the spot doubles after 3 months then a malignancy may be suspected. If a patient doesnt respond to anti biotics and anti fungals then doing a CT scan is necessary to confirm diagnosis.
