What Could Cause Breath Shortness In A 8 Years Old Child?

My 8 year old daughter got hit by baseball right in the middle of the chest about 3 years ago, but seemed to be unharmed. She now complains about her "heart hurting" and we have noticed shortness of breath when she is playing. Could this be related to this old injury?
