What Could Cause Fever In A 2.5 Years Old Child?
Hi,
My daughter is 2.5 years old, weight 11 to 12 kgs approx.
She had eaten some macronni n chicken from a sandwitch shop on Sunday post which she got a fever on Sunday afternoon. I visited her pedeatrician who said that the fever is low grade as her feet are cold whereas her torso, neck & forhead was warm, fever had gone upto 102.2 on a couple of occasions. He prescribed Crocin which did not give results & Combiflam syrup had to be given post 3 hours...he also prescribed Entrogenia solution, 6 vials for 3 days, however her fever keeps reoccuring post 7 to 8 hrs.
Now he has prescibed azhithral 100, 5 ml once a day for 3 days and said that if fever comes give Crocin 7 ml....need to know if this is a right diagnostics

Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics (LIKE AZITHROMYCIN OR AZITHRAL) at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (maximum ceiling dose of 500mg) every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
