What Could Excessive Regurgitation Despite Proper Chewing Indicate?
I have severe problems with regurgitation, I chew my food and eat, regardless of whether its meat, vegetables, fruit, etc it comes back up home, like I didn't even chew it. The food gets stuck in my chest, and will not pass---sometimes it takes a whole day for my food to digest. Please help!!!! I am 46 years old, overweight however I have lost 45 pounds on the past 6 months, I am in moderatley good health.
Hello, first of all, don't need to panic. Your symptoms of dysphagia ( difficulty in swallowing) suggest ACHALASIA CARDIA. But it could also be due to esophageal spasm, rings, webs or strictures or gastriesophageal refulx disease(GERD), or carcinoma esophagus. I would suggest you to get a BARIUM SWALLOW study done to know the exact cause of dysphagia. Treatment wise first thing is, you need to reduce your weight. Your last meal of the day should be at least 3 hrs before you go to bed. Avoid smoking. Do not lie down immediately after food intake. These measures will certainly help you if you are suffering from GERD. Also, antacids are of great help. But if your barium swallow shows ACHALASIA, surgery is the best choice to treat your symptoms. I request you to get a BARIUM SWALLOW study done and come back with the reports to this forum.
