What Is The Cause For Pain In Elbow Joint?

I am suffering from uncomfortable pain in the joint of my left elbow (area of the 'funny bone'). I have rested it for 5 weeks, but the pain has continued. Strangely, the pain seems to be migrating, as several weeks ago I felt a similar steady, uncomfortable pain in the top of my right foot, then my left knee, followed by my left hand (across the palm) followed now by my elbow. Any ideas?

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on your description of symptoms, most possibly it could be some form of Polyarthralgia (migratory polyarthralgia). There are numerous causes and conditions that present with similar picture.

Rheumatic fever is the commonest cause of migratory polyarthralgia. In this condition, there will be fever, sorethroat, joints pains and swelling. The other conditions that present with migratory polyarthralgia includes viral infections, bacterial infections, Systemic lupus etc.

A detailed clinical examination along with appropriate investigations like a complete blood count, urinalysis, and a metabolic panel may provide more useful diagnostic clues. Plain-film radiographs may demonstrate classic findings of specific rheumatologic diseases. However, radiographs can be normal or only show nonspecific changes early in the disease process.

I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon or a rheumatologist for a detailed workup and further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
