What Is The Chance Of Survival In An Elder Suffering From Ulcer?

HI my mum just passed away on the 21st june from complications of surgery from a perforated ulcer. My question is statiscally i know that the elderly struggle to recover from this kind of operation but waht is the chance of survival in the elderly?

Hello,

Sorry for your loss.
Studies have shown surgery related complications from perforated ulcer can be as high as 30% following simple closure.
It is more common in gastric than duodenal perforation.
And importantly the delay before the surgical treatment and associated complication is highly skewed against survival. (
