What Is The Cure For Vaginal Itching?

Hi, Im having vaginal itching w/ no dc. I just had sex with a new partner twice within the last 2 weeks (last time was 3 days ago). The vaginal itching started yesterday. I started on Monistat combo pack 1 day treatment today around 0800 am, and also took diflucan 150 mg po today around 3 pm. But, Im still itching like crazy! I would think that my symptoms would have gotten slightly better by now? I have no dc or foul odor. Could it be vaginitis? Should I go see my GYN or go get OTC vaginitis cream?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Yes, a new sexual partner could have given you the infection.
Just one day of treatment sometimes is not sufficient to cure an infection.
Also you are just assuming it is yeast infection.
It could be the beginning of a Trichomonal infection or BV ( bacterial vaginosis ) , the itching might just be the herald symptom, it might be followed by discharge , odour etc.
I would not recommend more OTC treatment.
It might worsen an infection at best and make it resistant at worst.
It is much better to have a specific infection targetted treatment.
Please see your OB GYN and have an internal exam- per vaginum and per speculum, and vaginal swab to confirm the type of infection.
Have protected sex until this passes.
Drink lots of fluids to avoid the beginning of a urinary tract infection.
All the best.
Take care.
