What Is The Effect Of Wrongly Administered Anti Rabies Vaccines?
Hi Doctor, My father was bitten by a stray dog on 12th nov. He was administed the 1st dose of Rabipur on 12th, then the Dr. gave his the following schedules for the remaining vaccines: 15th Nov (D3), 19th Nov (D7), 26 Nov (D14), 3rd Dec (D21) and 10th Dec (D28). He got all the vaccines administered as adviced by the Doc, but now I have learned that there is no vaccine for Day 21 and the last vaccine should be administered on Day 90. Pls. let me know if my father will be affected by Rabies as one vaccine was wrongly administered on Day 21. Please help.
Your father would have developed antibodies to rabies by now and hence he is protected against rabies. A change in the single dose of the vaccine will not affect his immunity against the disease. Hence, do not worry. He may need to be administered with day 90 vaccine according to schedule. You need to discuss the same with your treating physician.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
