What Is The Reason For Spasms In Back At Intervals Of A Few Minutes?

I have spasms (muscle? Nerve?) in my back parallel to the backbone running from the shoulder blade to the waistline. This has been going on for about 8 hours at intervals of roughly 1 to 3 minutes. Intensity varies. Female. 75 years. No medications, no drugs. On left side.
