What Is The Remedy For Swollen Knee?

I have a 9 year old son that hurt his knee in a game of football at school today. He went to basketball practice this evening and now can not bear any weight. The knee is clearly swollen. I have contacted his coach and we are going to withhold him from the tournament tomorrow. My question is this: if it is sprained, is there anything we can do? Or should we just ice it and have him rest it. Is it worth a trip to Ready Care?

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
By what you quote I am putting forth these possibilities -
1. Sprained knee
2. Anterior of posterior cruciate ligament tears
3. Sterile synovitis
4. Hair line fracture.
The best home care is putting an icepack and some pain reliever and I suggest you to go to your orthopedic surgeon immediately.
Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
