What Is The Small Swollen Black Bruise On The Tongue?

Hi I have what looks like a small black Bruise on the side of my tongue which is swollen and feels like the pain from a mouth ulcer when I swallow or eat food it is not an ulcer. I have been advised it could be a swollen vein. Do you have any idea what it could be or if it is a swollen vein what can be done about it? Thanks Kim

Hi, from description it seems like a swollen vein on the sides of tongue and it is usually harmless. Usually these go on their own and nothing is required. Please see that there is no irritant in the teeth which can lead to a bruise on the tongue. Local application of triamcinolone gel helps. If the symptoms persist, please see an ENT. Regards
