What Is The Treatment For Continuous Esophageal Heartburn With GERD/ Gastritis? Was Unsuccessfully Prescribed Protonix, Caraphate
Hi Dr.,
My questions aren't for me but for my wife. I'm trying to help her in the search for a solution to her health problems. She's been dealing with GERD / Gastritis for about 4 months now. We've seen a GP and 2 GIs. The GI prescribed Protonix, but it has not helped. Then he prescribed Caraphate and this also has not helped. We started doing our own research, changed her diet, but she's still not finding any relief. We have an appointment to see another GI who might be willing to search out other solutions, but that's not for another 2 weeks. In the meantime, my wife is suffering from really bad heartburn in her esophagus 24/7. Would love any help you might be able to suggest.
I have gone through your query. Your wife has already been diagnosed with GERD. I assume that cause of it is still unknown. I will suggest you to go for a urea breath test for H. pylori infection. If it came out to be negative go for a upper GI endoscopy to rule out ulcers. You mentioned that oral medicines are not giving any relief. Go for intravenous route. In 500 ml of normal saline add 4 vials of Protonix IV and give it slowly intravenously for 6-8 hours. Most doctors will not accept this but i have tried this on my patients and they got immediate relief from severe heart burn.
Do consider a positive feedback as a credit to my work. Let me know if you have any further questions.
