What To Do For The Problem In The Disc?

Hi. I m a 40 year old male in good health. With the exception of degenerative discs in L-4 and L-5, I have no history of a persistent or recurring medical issue(s). I have a tender/sore spot on the right inside part of my shin, about three-quarters of the way up to the knee. There s also radiation of very slight pain/discomfort in my knee as well. When I press on the spot, it is sore to the touch. There is no visible hematoma on or near the pain. Nor do I recall my shin recently enduring any trauma. I first noticed the pain about four days ago. Since then, it has not gotten any worse or better. My inquiry stems from the concern that I ve seen no palpable improvement. If this was merely bruising of the tissue or bone, wouldn t I notice some improvement, even be it marginal, four days later? Is this something I should have examined?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello,

The degenerative disc can not be reversed. Also, your muscles of the spine have become weak. They needs to become stronger so the normal biomechanics and anatomy of the joint is maintained. Due to disc degeneration at the level mentioned there will be a nerve root compression leading to abnormal symptoms in the dermatomes and myotomes it supply.

A good strengthening exercises for the core and spinal muscles will be of help. Also, do breathing exercises which are tend to focus on the deep muscles which are small muscles of the spinal column like the multifidus muscle.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
