What Treatment Should Be Given To My Son For Fever And Bad Cough ?

my 6yr old son has high temps, loss of appitite and a bad cough, mainly at night and quite dry, also been feeling very sick and is sleeping alot. i ve taken him to the Dr s, he said his ear drum was slightly red and believes thats the problem and perscribed antibiotics 4 days ago. how ever, symtoms remain the same, except, his cough is worsening. should i take him back and get a second opinion?

Hello.
The overall symptoms which your son is having can be due to the ear infection as the doctor diagnosed. However in children ear infection can begin even from some throat infection due to upper respiratory tract infection, which could mean that the infection to the ear has spread from the infection in the throat. Therefore if the cough is prominent and the symptoms remain the same, another assessment for the upper respiratory tract has to be done, so that appropriate antibiotic course can be given.Hope this helps. cough with fever has several causes but mainly the respiratoty causes .treatment depends on the chest findings and radiological findings.
