Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.
Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query
The
thyroid medicine can be tapered only if your tests remain good.
Personally I dont rely just on
tsh to reduce the medicine in my patients. i prefer to go for the complete thyroid profile, including ft3, ft4 and tsh.
You see if one of the components like ft3 or ft4 are reduced, the other component will compensate. However if you stop the medicine altogether, and the levels are deficient, the tsh wil rise again
In fact your facial puffiness would, to me, suggest that your thyroid medicine may need to be stepped up again. If you are using more dose of medicine, than the body requires, you should be getting thinner.
I would also suggest you test for usg thyroid/neck
and thyroid
antibodies test.
I think this will help you formulate the plan you need to take and discuss it with your doctor
I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.
