Why Child Is Having Maple Syrup Smell While Urinating And Throwing Up After Eating?

My 9 month old granddaughter was visiting last week and she accidentally peed on the couch when she was being changed. We cleaned it off but since then we notice a maple syrup smell. Could this be msud? Her diapers smell ok; she has been sleeping normally, but she has been throwing up a lot lately after eating.

Hello and welcome.

Both vomiting and maple syrup smelling urine are symptoms of MSUD and you will have to take your child to a doctor and request for plasma and urine amino acid tests which will report ketosis if the diagnosis is correct. Please do so at the earliest.
