Why Does My Husbands Urine Test Show Blood And Protein?

My husband has high blood pressure and has just been given lipator. His urine is showing signs for blood and protein and his doctor is wanting to do a 24 hour test on his urine. With all that going on, what could be going on with him? And hes a former smoker.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Presence of blood and proteins in urine are pathological.
Proteins in urine appear in case of renal function impairment or a kidney disease.
Further it is to be determined which proteins are excreted in urine.
Blood in urine also appears in many conditions.
Frank blood suggests some kind of bleeding in the urinary tract.
Hemoglobin in urine implies some kind of hemolysis in body.
These findings have to be clinically correlated and further tests may be required.
You need to stay in touch with your treating doctor.

Thanks and take care
