Will Changing Bystolic 10mg To Bystolic 5 Mg And Lisinopril 5mg For Arrhythmia And High BP Have The Similar Effect?

I AM 84 YEARS OLD AND TAKING BYSTOLI C (10 MG.) PER DAY FOR ARRYTHMIA AND MILD HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. I ALSO HAVE A MITRAL VALVE LEAKAGE. NOW MY DOCTOR HAS ME ON 5 MG OF BYSTOLIC AND 5 MG OF LISIPRONIL. WOULD THOSE TWO MEDICATIONS HAVE THE SAME EFFECT? THANK YOU.

Hi,

Lisinopril is certainly a better anti-hypertensive than Bystolic and would therefore be able to control your blood pressure better. Bystolic lowers both the heart rate and blood pressure. Probably it had lowered your heart rate more than required and so, your doctor decided to lower the dosage and use another medicine to control the blood pressure. Please do not worry and adhere to your doctor's instructions. Most probably, you will not have any problems on the new regimen.

Best wishes.
