Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been on .45mg of prempro for longer than 5 years. I have hypertension and have no cause other than maybe genetics. I take 100 mg of losartan each day and it is not doing a good job of controlling my bp. My question is could premprobe raising my bp and should I go off it Thanks so much
Incomplete data like age, purpose of taking Prempro. Prempro (Estrogens/Medroxyprogesterone) is a combination of female sex hormones used by women to help reduce symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness. Its most common side effects include stomach upset, nausea/vomiting, bloating, breast tenderness, headache, or weight gain. On prolonged used it may cause clot formation in the leg veins, increase the BP, increase the cholesterol and triglycerides.
You are advised to consult your treating doctor/gynecologist for an alternate effective drug to control the symptoms of menopause while controlling the high BP by adding other BP lowering medication such as hydrochlorthiazide.
Hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
