Child Has Large Hard Lump On Side Of Head And No Pain. Complained About Headache. Further?

My 9 year old daughter has a large lump on the side of her head. The lump is hard and she has no pain assoicated with the sight. She did not fall or hit her head. In addition she complained the other day about having a head ache. I am extremely worried now. I will schedule her to see a doctor asap. But in the meantime I was wondering if you had any answers

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
When did you observe the swelling?
The recent swelling could be due to a contusion which occurred due to trauma.
Another possibility is any growth within the structures of scalp layers or underlying bone.
She needs physical examination and skull X ray to know the origin of swelling.
For headache, you can give Tylenol in prescribed dose.
Consult the pediatrician for physical examination and for investigations.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
