Child Have Anxiety Attacks At Night And Breathlessness, Earlier For Prescribed Medicines Which Is Given Now. What To Do?
my 7 year old daughter has been having anxiety attacks at night. she complains of not being able to breathe. have taken her to ER several months ago because of not knowing what this was. of course, clean bill of health. But it has come back and i can t get het to calm down at night. Hate to give her meds for this so young, but worried.
This could be what is termed as paradoxical vocal cord motion. This tends to mimic asthma. But the wheezing sound tends to be mostly done when breathing in than breathing out. The breathing is noisy as it is from the vocal cords which comes together when breathing in instead of out. If there is no response to salbutamol inhaler the best option would be for her to do controlled breathing. Slow deep breathing. Also need to explore why she is getting panic attacks by counselling. I understand how distressing this is. But she will grow out of this.
